Action fans got a new mascot when John Wick came out. Keanu Reeves added another badass action hero part to his resume (alongside Neo in The Matrix and Constantine), and fans got a sick action movie experience that left the overwhelming majority of fans satisfied.
John Wick: Chapter 2 is about to hit screens this February, but fans won’t even have to hold their collective breath waiting to see if it’s going to be a success, because John Wick 3 is already in the works.

Talking with Collider, franchise director/stuntwork guru Chad Stahelski let it be known that Lionsgate is already interested in rounding out the trilogy – to the point that the studio as already pushed him to start development, nothing (with mild spoilers) that, “The studio has asked us to put our heads together and see if we can come up with something. Winston’s [McShane] is a big part of the next one, so is Lance Reddick. We’ve got some ideas.“
The excitement of knowing that Lance Reddick and Ian McShane will be in the third film is almost worth the spoiler for John Wick: Chapter 2. Both play fun characters that help support the great mythos that surrounds Wick’s character and the franchise as a whole. It’s also great to see that Wick (and presumably Reeves) will get a proper throwback action movie trilogy.
…In fact, provided the same creative team comes back and successfully ups the ante one more time, John Wick could actually end up going down as one of the greatest action franchises of all time.
For those worried about Chapter 2‘s ability to please fans, Stahelski seems laid back about it, telling Colliders, “Is it as good as the first one? I don’t know, that’s personal opinion. Did we go better in some ways? Yes. Did we explore the character more? Yes. It’s better, I think, technically. Is the enjoyment better? Yes, it’s there, but it’s completely different.”
We’ll see for ourselves when John Wick: Chapter 2 hits theaters on February 10, 2017.
