At the 67th Annual Emmy Awards, HBO’s fantasy series Game of Thrones set a new record with 12 Emmy awards. That’s the most number of wins for a series in a single year. The previous record was 9 Emmy awards, set in 2000 (first season) by NBC’s White House drama West Wing.
Game of Thrones entered the night one shy of the record as it had already pocketed 8 Emmy awards last week at the Creative Arts Emmys. On Sunday night, it added to its total when Peter Dinklage (‘Tyrion Lannister’) won Oustanding Supporting Actor — for a second time, David Benioff and Dan Weiss won Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series, David Nutter won Outstanding Direction in a Drama Series and Outstanding Drama Series.

The Creative Arts Emmys they won include Outstanding Make-Up for a Single-Camera Series (Non-Prosthetic), Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Drama Series, Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Contemporary or Fantasy Program (One Hour or More), Outstanding Sound Editing for a Series (“Hardhome”), Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Scripted Series (“Hardhome”), Outstanding Special Visual Effects (“The Dance of Dragons”), Outstanding Stunt Coordination for a Drama Series and Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series
