The Golden Globes is the first big awards show of the season, and this year, it is chalk full of some of the best television shows of 2016. In previous years, it’s been near impossible to predict the winners. The voting committee tends to lean more toward fresh blood, but other times they offer up the award to repeat nominees. But, despite the fact that this particular show likes to throw a fast one at fans, we have still gone ahead and made our predictions for the show.
When you have shows like Game of Thrones facing off against Westworld and Stranger Things, it can be near impossible to choose which one will win. It’s equally difficult when you have incredible actors and actresses fighting for the title of “Best” in both comedies and dramas! But, as you click through our gallery, you’ll see who we’ve chosen for the television awards this year – Best TV Comedy and Drama, Best Actor Comedy and Drama, and Best Actress Comedy and Drama.

Best Comedy
Atlanta
With so many great comedies up for the award this year – andย VEEPย being a big fan favorite – many believe that the award will most likely, and most deservedly, go to Donald Glover’sย Atlanta.ย The show follows two cousins in Atlanta, Georgia. One of them becomes a famous rap star, while the other is along for the ride.

Best Drama
Game of Thrones
Though this is the only returning nominee for this category, and the award has been given to newcomers to the nomination in the past, this last season ofย Game of Thrones has been by far the best. It is the first series that did not have a book to follow and it proved that HBO knows what its doing when it comes to telling a captivating and intense story. This last season ofย Thrones was so good, there are actually individual episodes that could stand alone against some of the other contenders in this category (“Battle of the Bastards“).

Best Actor – Comedy
Donald Glover –ย Atlanta
Not only is Donald Glover new to the category, but he is fresh blood, which is often where the awards go. More importantly, though, Glover’s performance inย Atlanta is genius. He is funny, clever, while also pulling on the audience’s hearstrings when the story calls for it. What’s more, he is also the creator of the show.ย

Best Actor – Drama
Rami Malek –ย Mr. Robot
Now that John Hamm is no longer around to take the award in favor ofย Mad Men, the talented and brilliant Rami Malek can finally get the Golden Globe. He already has an Emmy for his role, so hopefully he will be able to add a Globe to his collection this year for another great season of the show.ย

Best Actress – Comedy
Julia Louis-Dreyfus –ย VEEP
This is Dreyfus’ fifth nomination for a Golden Globe for her role in the political comedy, VEEP. Though in the latest season, she no longer plays the title role of Vice President, perhaps this means that she will finally be able to break up her losing streak and take home the Globe.ย ย

Best Actress – Drama
Winonaย Ryder –ย Stranger Things
This Netflix breakout would have been nothing more than a scary children’s show if it hadn’t been for Winona Ryder’s performance. She truly made viewers feel for her character and what she was going through with the loss of her child. Viewers started to go a little crazy alongside her in the show. This could be one of Ryder’s best performances – if not ever, definitely in a long time.ย
