The Playboy mansion, one of the most iconic residences in all of the U.S., has sold for a hefty price. The best part: Hugh Hefner will remain in the house.

The mansion's property was sold to its neighbor in the Holmby Hills neighborhood - the adjacent property, in fact - at a listing $200 million. Broker Mauricio Umanksy listed the estate. An exact price of the final sale has not yet been determined. A Playboy spokesman confirmed that the mansion is in contract but declined further details.

The estate was purchased by Daren Metropoulos, a principal at private equity firm Metropoulos & Co.. He has lived in the estate next door since 2009, when he purchased the residence from Hugh Hefner. A representative tells The Wall Street Journal he is passionate about the neighborhood's architecture.

"The heritage of this property transcends its celebrity and to have the opportunity to serve as its steward would be a true privilege," Mr. Metropoulos said.

The terms of the sale included Hefner's right to remain in the mansion for the rest of his life. When Hefner's tenancy ends, Metropoulos plans to connect the two estates into a combined 7.3 acre compound according to the representative.

Currently, the Playboy mansion is roughly 20,000 square feet with 29 rooms, including 23 bedrooms on five acres. It is a rare Los Angeles residence with a zoo license. Playboy Enterprises acquired the property in 1971 for $1.05 million.
