In a heartfelt Facebook post, 33-year-old actress Anne Hathaway reflected on her time working with late Princess Diaries director Garry Marshall. The prolific film and TV writer, producer, and director responsible for Happy Days and Pretty Woman passed away on Tuesday at the age of 81 years old.
Oscar-winning actress Anne Hathaway got her first big break when Marshall cast her for the lead role as a clumsy, klutzy Mia in 2001 film Princess Diaries. The character launched Hathaway into global stardom, but Hathaway claims that Marshall had a much more meaningful impact on her life not just on her acting career.

“Before we made the Princess Diaries, he told me ‘You never know if a movie is going to be a hit or not. The only thing you can control is the memories you make when shooting it. So, let’s make some good memories,” Hathaway wrote. “That advice changed my life even more than the film did.”
Before his death, Marshall teased the idea of a third Diaries movie with Hathaway. “I was with Anne Hathaway a couple weeks ago, it looks like we want to do Princess Diaries 3 in Manhattan,” he told People magazine. “Anne Hathaway is very pregnant, so we have to wait until she has the baby and then I think we’re going to do it.”
Hathaway continued in her post by writing: “Garry was goodness itself. He was generous. He was kind beyond kind. He was thoughtful and sweet and so funny you would pee yourself a little. I met him when I was a child who thought she was a grown-up; he treated me with grace and patience and respect and always, always love.”
Anne Hathaway is one of many actresses to pay tribute to the late Hollywood legend.
Thoughts and prayers go out to Garry Marshall’s family at this time.
