Country Stars React to Hurricane Harvey Devastation

Hurricane Harvey has been ripping through Texas this week and has caused destructive flooding throughout the Houston area.

At least five people have been killed, with many more being injured and/or losing their homes. Houston’s support services are being pushed to their limits, with many still awaiting rescue from the floods.

While they aren’t able to be on the ground to support, several country music stars are sharing their love for the Lone Star State and are urging those around the world to join in fundraising efforts.

Chris Young

Chris Young is one of the country artists not wasting time when it comes to stirring up support for the relief.

He’s pledged $100,000 to the Red Cross and other local disaster relief organizations in the affected area. He’s also spearheaded a GoFundMe campaign, which has added an additional $62,313 towards the total.

“As everyone knows, Texas was hit Friday by Hurricane Harvey which made landfall as a category four hurricane, the largest storm to hit the area in decades,” Young said. “Port Aransas, Rockport, Corpus Christi, Houston and so many other places are going to be dealing with so much damage and loss of life for a long time to come. I’m worried about the people there — my friends, family and neighbors — and I want to help. I’m starting this GoFundMe campaign in an effort to help everyone in Texas that has been affected by this hurricane.”

 

Lady Antebellum

The members of Lady Antebellum are also putting their money where their mouths are. 

In addition to sharing their condolences on Twitter, they pledged their recent merchandise sales to the cause. The band had originally been scheduled to play The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, which is located near Houston, on Sunday night.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by Hurricane Harvey,” the band said. “We are so sad to have had to cancel our show in Houston tonight. Last night, we played a show up the street in Dallas and all of our merch proceeds will be going towards hurricane relief funds.”

Band member Charles Kelly also released additional well wishes on his personal account.

“Hoping everyone stays safe in Texas right now,” wrote Kelly. “Don’t mess around with this stuff!”

 

Miranda Lambert

Miranda Lambert was also deeply affected by the storm. 

She calls Texas home and wanted to share her love and thoughts will those in the hurricane’s path.

She wrote, “Last show tonight of our European tour. Headed home tomorrow and praying for my home state. I love you Texas.”

She later shared a photo of a heart colored like Texas’ flag with the caption “Prayers, light and love for Texas.”

 

Kacey Musgraves / Maddie & Tae

Two more native Texans who are reaching out are Kacey Musgraves and Madison Marlow of Maddie & Tae.

Each artist were away from home, but wanted to make sure everyone thre felt the love in the face of tragedy.

“Sending love to my home state,” Musgraves wrote. “Sit this buckin’ bronc, y’all!”

“All the way in the U.K. with a very heavy heart for all the flooding in my home state,” wrote Marlow. “Sending prayers your way Texas. “

 

Others

Many other artists have shared their support and promoted fundraising efforts.

“Thoughts and prayers to all our friends in Houston being affected by the flooding with Hurricane Harvey,” wrote Dierks Bentley. “Looking into how we can help.”

“Please say a prayer for Houston and surrounding areas today,” wrote Lee An Womack.

“It’s breaking my heart to see Texas flooded like it is right now,” Eric Paslay said in a message urging donations to the Red Cross. “Being a Texan myself, I know how tough y’all are. hang in there, be tough. It warms everybody’s heart seeing y’all help each other out, so keep doing that. Be safe.”
