In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the Oscar-winner gets candid about how she fell back on the love and support of her husband, country singer-songwriter, Keith Urban, when dealing with those scenes of domestic abuse with her co-star Alexander Skarsgรฅrd.
“Because we were shooting for so longโฆ I think the duration of [the production] slowly started to seep in,” Kidman said in references to the shooting schedule of a TV series compared to film.
Kidman says that with her extensive career, normally she can “step back” into family life somewhat easily, but this was particularly hard.
In the mini-series, Kidman stars as Celeste Wright, wife of Skarsgรฅrd’s Perry Wright, and while the two project the “perfect marriage” front of their friends, they actually have a bitter and violently abusive relationship behind closed doors.

But according to the 50-year-old, after those very difficult and tortuous shoots, she always came home to “loving arms” with Urban by her side, and daughters, Sunday, 9 and Faith, 6.
“Luckily I have a partner who is artistic so he understands what it takes to support that,” she said. “[He] would hold me, and I was really upset at times. Really damaged and really upset and physically and emotionally drained and in pain… Luckily I have that at home and I also have people I can talk to and get it out.”
Despite the toll it took on her psyche, Kidman said she would be very interested in returning to the series for a second season and work alongside, co-stars, including Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley, Zoe Kravitz and Laura Dern โ all of whom earned nominations for this year’s Emmy Awards.
“We’re just reveling in [the fact that] that everyone got nominated,” she said. “That just doesn’t happen, you know? I’ve been in so many different shows and had a number of experiences over the years and this is completely new.”
