When all else fails, Stephanie March is claiming that altering your body via plastic surgery is NOT the answer — at least it wasn't for her.
In a new, raw essay for Refinery29, the Law & Order: SVU star gets real about how poorly her breast augmentation went following her divorce from Bobby Flay.
Though she never mentions Flay by name, she explains the difficult time saying, "I could not fix it — any of it. My job. My relationship. My life. Not a damn thing. But not being one to sit on a problem, I decided to try one last thing. And what I did next was exactly what you are not supposed to do when it comes to plastic surgery."
Five weeks out from surgery, she felt fine and looked great, despite everything going wrong in her world at the time. But then, one of the implants became infected in October.
"One morning in early October I sat up in bed and felt a sickening wet mucus sliding down my chest," March recalled. "It was everywhere, soaking my shirt and the sheets. I raced to my surgeon's office. He shot me full of anesthesia, deftly removed the entire implant, cleaned and packed the wound, and immediately sent me to an infectious disease doctor."
She continued detailing the horrifying experience, saying, "I had a hole in my breast for six weeks while I blasted my body with antibiotics. I had the implant put back in. I had another infection and rupture on Christmas Eve. I had it taken out again. I had more cultures and tests and conversations with doctors than I care to recall."
Finally, after her mother's diagnosis with pancreatic cancer, she had the implants taken out entirely, saying she knew it was time to move on from that "project."
Despite the harrowing experience under the knife, March said she hasn't ruled out plastic surgery as an option in the future.0comments
"I want to say clearly and truly that I have no problem with plastic surgery. None whatsoever," she stressed. "It's a private matter. It's nobody's business. It often turns out just fine. And I fully anticipate my revisiting it in the years to come, if I'm being honest."
We're so glad March made it through and seems to be happy with her new beau, hedge fund manager and technology investor, Dan Benton.
