How does a horrifying clown cult fit in with the 2016 presidential election? American Horror Story‘s seventh season will aim to show you, just not exactly how you might have thought.
During the TCA summer press tour, the women of American Horror Story: Cult took the stage to discuss the upcoming season. As you can imagine, they couldn’t share very much information about the new story, but executive producer Alexis Martin Woodall did let everyone in on the supposed election-connection.

The EP revealed that Cult wasn’t going to be as involved with the real election as many thought. “It’s more about what’s going on in our world around us,” Woodall said.
As far as the actual election night is concerned, Woodall mentioned that it would be used as a “launch point.”
This all sounds a bit confusing, and Woodall agreed that the misdirection is supposed to be there.
“It’s not what you think it is – and I’m not trying to be cagey. It’s just with all good horror and suspense, not knowing is going to be good for you.”
Well, if American Horror Story is trying to keep fans in the dark, the show has certainly succeeded. Aside from creepy clowns and honeycombs, no one really knows a thing.
That’s exactly how Ryan Murphy and his team want it to be.
