A New York woman and one of her sons were found guilty after being on trial for the murder of her estranged husband as they reportedly poured acid on his face to make identifying the body more difficult after disposing of his remains in the woods.

Laura Rideout, 46, and Colin Rideout, were convicted by a Rochester jury on Tuesday. They were found guilty of second-degree murder of 50-year-old Craig Rideout, and were also found guilty of evidence tampering, the New York Post reports.

Laura’s son and Colin’s brother, Alexander Rideout, was acquitted of the murder charges. However, he was found guilty of evidence tampering.

Also involved in the trial was Paul Tucci, Laura’s 51-year-old boyfriend. He was acquitted on both charges.

Craig Rideout’s mutilated body was discovered 40 miles southeast of Rochester in the woods near the Finger Lakes region. The prosecutors revealed that Craig was found with a tarp over his body with evidence showing that he had been strangled and beaten at his home.

When the investigators were collecting evidence, they heard a phone ringing. They discovered that Craig’s cellphone had been left in his pocket, a detail that the killers overlooked. It was crucial in helping identify his body.

The prosecutors presented evidence over the course of a three-week trial. One incriminating video showed Colin buying a shovel and four pairs of work gloves on the same day that the prosecution said Craig was killed.

The day before, Laura and Tucci purchased drain cleaner, a tarp, and bungee cords at another store.

A shovel that looked like the one Colin bought at Walmart was found near Craig’s body. The four pair of gloves were found covered in the victim’s blood, according to Fox News.

He was killed on July 20, 2016, while the couple was going through a divorce.

The sentencing has been scheduled for September 1.

Agnes Rideout, Craig’s mother, had a mixed reaction to the results of the trial.

“Justice for my son, but those are my grandkids,” she said while talking to the Democrat and Chronicle.
