Shania Twain is back and fans everywhere are rejoicing. The country singer’s new album will be released on September 29th, called Now, and is her first new album in over 15 years.
Every track on the album has been written by Twain, including her recently released single, “Life’s About to Get Good.” In an interview with Rolling Stone, Twain revealed that much of the new album was inspired by her messy divorce from her producer and husband Robert “Mutt” Lange.” One of the tracks on the album, “Who’s Gonna Be Your Girl?,” is about the breakdown of her marriage. “It’s about feeling unappreciated and knowing that you are secondary,” she said. “Having to live with someone that has different priorities and accepting that you’re not the most important thing in a person’s life.”

Twain’s divorce involved an affair and a spousal swap. Twain and Lange divorced after he abruptly left her for her former best friend, Marie-Anne Thiebaud in 2008. Twain went on to marry Marie-Anne’s husband, Frederic Thiebaud, a few years later.
Twain describes herself as a “different singer now.” She suffers from a vocal chord disorder, dysphonia, which altered her signature voice. “There was a lot of coming to term with that,” she says of the disorder. “It’s been one of the obstacles in my life I’ve just had to learn to live with.”
The five-time Grammy winner put her heart and soul into this new still-untitled album and says the writing process was “therapy” and very cathartic. “It helped me come to terms with a lot of things emotionally,” she said. “It’s sort of like when you finish crying. When you’re done, you’re done and you move on.”
