A civil court has found Bobbi Kristina Brown’s boyfriend Nick Gordon “legally responsible” in the 22-year-old’s death.
The daughter of the late Whitney Houston died on July 26, 2015 after months in a medically induced coma. She had been found unresponsive in her bathtub and reportedly died of a combination of drowning and drug intoxication.

Gordon failed to appear at a court appearance in Atlanta, Georgia on Friday morning, where the judge ruled against him.
“In court today, we finally finished a long journey for justice for Bobbi Kristina Brown,” Brown’s estate attorney R. David Ware told 11 Alive. “The court agrees with us, by striking Mr. Gordon’s answer that he is legally responsible for her death. The only thing left to prove is the value of her life. We intend to do that.”
The ruling has brought her family justice, but no comfort in her loss.
“We are praising God. This has been a long time coming. But all the judgments in the world won’t bring Krissy back,” a Brown family source shared with PEOPLE. “We miss her every single day. Even when there’s justice, it’s not comfort. She was gone too soon, and we all have to live with that. I hope Nick lives with it every day for the rest of his life, because we sure are.”
This ruling comes from a civil court and will not be related to criminal charges.
