Around twenty years after the release of the James Cameron classic Titanic, actor Billy Zane has suggested that he prefers an alternate ending to the one in the original 1997 romance. While on the Today show on Tuesday, the 50-year-old actor suggested that Kate Winslet’s character, Rose, should have ended up with his character, Cal Hockley.
“I think he [Cal] found redemption by the end, and I wish he had found her on the [rescue boat] Carpathia and was able to right his wrongs,” Zane told the Today show.

Zane portrays Cal, Rose’s pompous fiancรฉ who is determined to keep Rose away from her new lovebird Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio). During the film Cal did everything he could to thwart the budding romance between the two characters including: having Jack arrested and handcuffed to a pipe, attempting to trick Rose into sailing away on a lifeboat without Jack, and chasing the couple through the flooding ship with a pistol in hand. Even after all of this villainous behavior, Zane still believes that Cal wasn’t quite as evil as he seemed.
“He was a little misunderstood,” Zane clarified. “I wasn’t the iceberg.” He also mentioned, “I did not drown two thousand people.”
The Today show hosts weren’t completely buying it that Zane really believed his character should have ended up with Rose, but Zane had fun playing along as if he truly did.
While he may not have been ultimately the thing that killed Jack Dawson in the end, do you think Billy Zane has a point? Should his character Cal have ended up with Rose at the end?
