Richard Simmons Sets the Record Straight on Transitioning Rumors

After tabloid rumors have circulated claiming that fitness guru Richard Simmons was transitioning into a woman, he took to Facebook to set the record straight, The Hollywood Reporter details.

On Tuesday, Simmons penned an honest response putting an end to rumors that he is actively transitioning and living under the name “Fiona.”

He wrote, “Some tabloids have recently falsely reported that I am transitioning. In response, I feel compelled to set the record straight and refute these lies. Although I am not transitioning, I have and always will be supportive of those who are going through their journey.”

Simmons took the opportunity to speak in support of the LGBT community following the deadly mass shooting in Orlando, Florida, saying, “We should not lose focus on showing love, strength and compassion to all of the LGBT community during these tragic times. My broken heart and healing thoughts are with the people of Orlando and all other victims of prejudice, bigotry and hate.”

The workout guru has been plagued by rumors recently, including that he was kidnapped and later hospitalized for “bizarre behavior.”
