After dozens of reports of fires and spewing smoke, more than 500,000 hoverboards are being recalled.

The U.S. regulator said on Wednesday, there have been 99 reports to the Consumer Product Safety Commission regarding an issue with the battery packs overheating, exploding, or catching fire. The CPSC mentions that there have been at least 18 reports of injuries, such as burns to the neck, legs, or arms. There have also been reports of property damage.

Earlier this year, the CPSC warned the makers and retailers of the hoverboards that the two-wheel motorized scooters needed to meet the standards and newly-created safety requirements or the product will face recalls. Institutions such as airlines, railroads and college campuses have already banned the hoverboards, according to FOX 17.

10 different companies were subject to the recall ranging from Swagway LLC of South, Bend Indiana, to the Hong Kong based company Keenford.

The models being recalled include:

  • 267,000 Swagway X1s
  • 84,000 iMotos
  • 70,000 Powerboards
  • 28,000 Hovertraxs
  • 25,000 Hype Roams
  • 16,000 Hover-Ways

The hoverboards were a hot commodity this past holiday season and were sold in stores nationwide and online between June 2015 and May 2016. The hoverboards were on the market for prices ranging between $350 all the way up to $900.

Owners have been encouraged to stop using the recalled products and return them for a full refund, free repair or a free replacement, the CPSC said.

Consumers that are unsure as to whether their hoverboard is part of the recall can call the CPSC consumer hotline at (800) 638-2772.
