A 13-year-old girl from Hampton, Virginia has been arrested and put in police custody for allegedly reaching out to a local clown on Facebook to kill one of her teachers.

The investigation was launched after the authorities received a call on Sunday regarding the threat being made on social media. The girl reportedly requested that this person murder one of the teachers at Davis Middle School.

"The profile that she contacted actually was using a clown as a profile picture and so using a clown related alias," Officer Ashley Jenrette of the Hampton Police told WAVY.

After the school received news of the threat, security was heavily beefed up at Davis Middle to ensure the safety of the teachers and students.

The call to the police eventually resulted in the teen's arrest. The detectives on the case also reached out to the teacher to make sure that they were OK, and were aware of the situation.

The police mentioned that there have no been no threats against anyone else that they know of at this time.

Diana Gulota from Hampton City Schools explained, "We looked at prior discipline issues and so on, but basically the range is long-term suspension to expulsion."

The teenage girl has been charged with threatening to kill via electronic message.

This most recent case is only one of a number of clown-related incidents. There has been a creepy clown epidemic across the United States that include reports of people dressed as clowns that are threatening and robbing civilians.

In one case, a man was able to videotape a creepy knife-wielding clown that chased after him while jogging in the park with his friend.

How do you think schools should handle students contacting people on social media to kill one of the teachers and/or students?
