A Pennsylvania mother with extreme views on nutrition has put her child in danger after feeding the infant only small amounts of nuts and berries, and now she faces jail time for it.

Elizabeth Hawk, 33, practices an extreme form of veganism, and wanted her 11-month-old son to eat the same way. Hawk's sister-in-law, Brandy Hawk, noticed the baby boy was having troubling health issues and quickly put the pieces together.

"He had a severe rash," said Brandy Hawk. "It was his motor skills; he couldn't use his hands at all."

Brandy claims Elizabeth's veganism diet is so extreme so planned on not eating any food at all.

"She was going to live on water and sunlight," said Brandy.

Elizabeth said her baby's symptoms were nothing more than allergies, but the boy's father knew otherwise. Though estranged from the mother, the father felt compelled to to bring his son to a state child welfare agency, where a doctor said the baby's treatment was utterly "inhumane," adding the child's skin condition put him at risk for septic shock.

The poor baby was developmentally delayed from being malnourished, but is now back with his father where he's eating normally and feeling better.

Elizabeth hasn't been convicted yet, but she'll soon have her day in court.
