Kelly Clarkson has faced criticism over a perceived diss at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s relationship, and now the singer is responding. The controversy sparked after Saturday Night Live cast member Bowen Yang appeared on Clarkson’s daytime talk show, and the pair laughed about a recent SNL sketch that poked fun at how much the NFL has been covering the young couple, per Deadline. However, the host went on to say, “It’s not hilarious how it is literally taking over the NFL for people that like watching sports now. It’s like you’re watching ‘Housewives’ while you’re watching.”ย
Taking to Instagram, Clarkson has now defended herself from angry Swifties and media outlets who think that she was making a verbal jab at the new couple. “Just a quick public service announcement everybody since this seems to be breaking news… Do not fall prey to clickbait, trash reporters twisting the facts again. I did not bash anyone’s romance,” Clarkson wrote in a post. “I am pro romance. Yay romance Did y’all even watch what I actually said on my show? I just said I want to watch football when I tune in to watch football. Seems an appropriate request. Okay, carry on, and GO COWBOYS!”

Notably, the NFL previously released a statement defending itself from the claims that it has put too much emphasis on Swift and Kelce’s relationship. “We frequently change our bios and profile imagery based on what’s happening in and around our games, as well as culturally,” the organization said. “The Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce news has been a pop cultural moment we’ve leaned into in real-time, as it’s an intersection of sport and entertainment, and we’ve seen an incredible amount of positivity around the sport.”
While Clarkson might not be hating on Swift and Kelce, the pair still have their skeptics, such asย The Viewย panelist Sara Haines. Recently, Haines joined the show’s executive producer Brian Teta on an episode of the Behind the Table podcast. During their conversation, Haines accused Swift and Kelce of using their connection as a “publicity stunt.”
“I can usually find something, but I’ll let you know when I don’t care. This is a PR stunt, this whole thing, and I’m just not that interested in it, because it feels like you’re giving air to a publicity stunt,” Haines told Teta,ย perย Entertainment Weekly. “She does not need more expensive concert tickets that are hard to get. Like, she’s good. We’re good.” The EP replied by tellin Haines that she had “an opinion that would’ve been interesting to hear on television.”
“The Swifties are as bad as the Beyhive,” she responded. “They come for you if you even allude to them. I don’t like to put negative energy out there, I don’t care who she dates, but it’s not because I’m a bad person.”
