In New Albany on Friday, a woman was put in jail after stabbing her husband for returning home without doughnuts.
Around 11:30 a.m., the police responded to a call from the 200 block of Graybrook Lane and found a man sitting against a tree holding a t-shirt against his chest, according to the police report. The t-shirt was soaked in blood from the open stab wound that the man was covering.

The man stated to the police that he had left the house to purchase doughnuts for his wife, 37-year-old Michelle Nelson. The store did not have the kind she normally gets, so he then returned home without doughnuts. Nelson reportedly “got upset at him for not know[ing] what else she liked after being together for several years.”
The couple then began to argue, and the situation escalated when he tried to leave the house. Nelson then allegedly blocked the exit when the man shoved her out of his way. At this moment, Nelson lunged at her husband while holding a grill fork and punctured the man’s chest.
The man informed the police that he removed the fork from his chest and left the home. As he was leaving, he says that Nelson followed him out the door and continued yelling at him.
A neighbor, who says the couple had been fighting every day recently, saw the aforementioned argument take place. The neighbor reports seeing Nelson chase her husband down the street, and also mentioned that she saw blood running down the man’s chest.
According to the police report, the man was taken to Floyd Memorial Hospital and received treatment for non-life threatening injuries. The couple’s child was taken into custody by the Indiana Department of Child Services.
The man may be facing battery charges, while Nelson has been preliminarily charged with aggravated battery.
She was booked into the Floyd County Jail on a $75,000 cash-surety bond, according to News And Tribune.
The most important question still remains…what kind of doughnuts do you think he was supposed to get?
