Thomas Gibson has seen the last of his days on CBS’ Criminal Minds television series.
ABC Studios and CBS Television Studios said in a statement: “Thomas Gibson has been dismissed from Criminal Minds. Creative details for how the character’s exit will be addressed in the show will be announced at a later date.”

Gibson’s dismissal comes after the recent news broke that the actor, who portrays FBI Special agent Aaron Hotchner on the show, got into a physical altercation with one of the show’s writers. He reportedly kicked the writer after tempers flared in a creative dispute. The 54-year-old actor responded to the incident after the producers originally suspended him for two episodes.
“There were creative differences on the set and a disagreement,” he recalled. “I regret that it occurred. We all want to work together as a team to make the best show possible. We always have and we always will.”
Apparently CBS felt differently as they have parted ways with Gibson effective immediately. The veteran actor has appeared on every episode of the show since its inception, and directed a few as well. Gibson was scheduled to appear in the remainder of this season before his contract expired, and was supposed to direct another episode.
This is not the first time Gibson has been involved in a scuffle with the producers on the show. The actor got himself into trouble a few years ago when he pushed one of the producers on the show. He was made to attend anger management classes as a result, but was not suspended at the time.
Do you think CBS was right to dismiss Thomas Gibson from ‘Criminal Minds?’
