It was the normal start to just another high school football game in Palo Cedro, California – until the Cougars turned it into a moment that can never be forgotten.

As the Foothill High School football team entered the field, cheerleader Ashley Adamietz stood tentatively on the side lines. She’s been battling Chronic Myeloid Leukemia since August.

But the Cougar team had something special planned for the senior cheerleader that she never saw coming. Each of the 57 team members carried with them an orange rose – the designated color for leukemia awareness – and as they neared Ashley they laid them at her feet in a sign of support.

Ashley was “shocked, overwhelmed, and speechless.”

“I don’t’ know where I’d be without the support of my family, friends and most importantly, my school,” Ashley later tweeted.

But what drove the Foothill High School Cougars to be so supportive?

“She’s part of the Cougar family, so why not let her know that we’re all here for her,” said senior football player Ryan Caetano. “We are. So I wanted to let that be known to everybody, and especially to her, for what she’s going through.”
