At almost any wedding, the moment when the bride walks down the aisle is the most touching part of the ceremony. In Jaquie Goncher’s wedding, this moment held some unique significance for the bride and her family.
Jaquie, the 25-year-old bride, was paralyzed from the neck down from the age of 17 after a swimming accident resulted in a severe spinal cord injury. Doctors claimed that she would probably never again. Jaquie had different plans.

Six months after the accident, Jaquie defied the odds and was able to stand. However, over the course of the next 8 years, she was predominantly reliant on her wheelchair.
Prior to the accident, Jaquie was an athlete, and it frustrated her to not be able to do her workouts. “I would go to the gym and get so frustrated that I wouldn’t go back, I was trying to make myself do it but I kept failing at it and then I would be disgusted with myself,” Jaquie stated in an interview with Cosmopolitan.
Finally, a year before her wedding day, Jaquie set a goal for herself: be able to stand and walk at her wedding. As you can see by the photo gallery, not only did Jaquie achieve her goal of walking down the aisle, but she was also able to dance with her husband for the first time ever.
The groom was aware of the surprise that his bride would be walking down the aisle with her mother and grandfather, but was not able to hold back his tears at the highly emotional moment.
We wish Jaquie and her husband a long a happy marriage.
