Dwayne Johnson’s new disaster blockbuster San Andreas is hardly off to a rocky start with the film looking to score an almost $50M on its debut weekend.
San Andreas which is a callback to disaster films like Towering Inferno, Twister, and Earthquake is looking to take the top slot in America for the weekend. It opened Friday with a better than expected $18.2M, which has led opening weekend projections to rise to $48 million.

Even though San Andreas only managed to score a 49% on Rotten Tomatoes with critics, it has been a hit with moviegoers, receiving an A- CinemaScore. Also, San Andreas is in the running to be Johnson’s biggest opening ever as a solo lead according to THR.
