Martin Scorsese’s 2006 Oscar-winning movie The Departed will now be getting a TV series reboot, and will be developed by Amazon.
The crime drama is in development at Amazon Studios, where they will be working alongside some of the producers on the original film including Vertigo Entertainment, Initial Entertainment Group and Plan B Entertainment. Warner Bros TV will also be involved in producing the upcoming series.

The show will based on Scorsese’s feature film that starred Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson and Mark Wahlberg. The script will be penned by Detroit 1-8-7 creator Jason Richman, who will be crafting new material from the two-way-undercover concept.
While it is inspired by the film, the television series will differ from the original story somewhat significantly. The 2006 film was set in Boston and dealt with the Irish mob. The upcoming show will take place in present-day Chicago and revolve around a Latino mob.
A young cop will go undercover to infiltrate a violent Latino gang at the same time that the gang is planting a guy of their own on the inside of the law enforcement department. The show will revolve around the two secretive moles as they try to complete their respective missions.
The script for the Scorsese film was penned by William Monahan. After its release, the movie won four Oscars including best picture, best director and best adapted screenplay. The highly-acclaimed film was also a commercial success as it raked in $290 million at the box office on a $90 million budget.
Jason Richman will be executive producing in the forthcoming reboot show alongside Graham King; Vertigo founder Roy Lee; Vertigo’s head of TV Michael Connolly; and Plan B’s Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, and Sarah Esberg. Other producers include Tripp Vinson, Doug Davison and Gianni Nunnari.
The series is the first project that will be under development under the agreement between Amazon and Warner Bros. Tv, which both companies signed at the end of 2015, according to Deadline.
