On Thursday during a CBS fan favorites panel at Comic-Con, the company announced that Paget Brewster would be returning to Criminal Minds. Brewster will return to reprise her role as SSA Emily Prentiss for a multi-episode run, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Showrunner Erica Messer stated: “We’re excited to have Paget Brewster back for multiple episodes in our 12th season. The BAU can use more help this year since they’ve got a lot of known and unknown subjects to catch.”

Brewster posted about her upcoming return on Twitter with the caption: “Yes! I’m shooting a whole bunch of episodes this year @CrimMinds_CBS! And it was so d*** hard not telling you.”

Brewster left at the end of season 7 after she was a regular on the crime drama from seasons two through seven. She was also credited as a special guest in season nine. After the popular CBS show lost leading man Shemar Moore at the conclusion of season 11, Brewster returned for the 200th episode of the show and as part of the storyline that saw Moore’s exit. Most recently, Brewster starred on short-lived Fox comedy Grandfathered, starring John Stamos.

CBS also cast CSI: Miami alum Adam Rodriguez as a series regular for season 12. His debut will be in the premiere of the 12th season.

Criminal Minds 12th season premieres on Wednesday September 28 at 9 PM. The series also stars Joe Mantegna, Thomas Gibson, Matthew Gray Gubler, A.J. Cook, Kirsten Vangsness and now Adam Rodriguez. Executive producer for the show are Mark Gordon, Erica Messer and Breen Frazier for ABC Studios in association with CBS Television Studios, according to Deadline.
