Funko’s director of marketing, Mark Robben, states that the set started as a passion project for the company, but that already, the response from the fanbase has been major, noting to ABC News that, “We created these as a passion project initially, and were blown away when it started trending on social media.”
Golden Girls remains a major staple in the lives of those who basked in the glow of ’80s sitcoms. The show – about a group of four single ladies trying to make through late-life challenges – was a comedy hit that has solidified the stardom of Betty White (Rose), Bea Arthur (Dorothy), Rue McClanahan (Blanche) and Estelle Getty (Sophia). Besides enduring through syndication, Golden Girls has continued to inspire all sorts of merchandise and memorabilia. The show is still so relevant, that just last year Rue McClanahan’s death was a trending topic on social media – despite the actress having passed away in 2010!
As noted in ABC News’ report, a Golden Girls-themed restaurant is also about to open in NYC. It’s called “Rue La Rue Cafe” and you can get updates on its impending opening on the restaurant’s official Facebook Page.
