Ice cream is delicious, unless of course it's tainted by listeria.

That's the exact issue Blue Bell Creameries is facing - again. The Brenham, Texas-based ice cream manufacturer issued a recall on products produced in its Alabama plant after it was discovered they may be at risk of listeria.

The company recalled the otherwise tasty flavors of chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream, Cookie Two Step and also pints of its chocolate chip cookie dough.

"Blue Bell identified a potential problem through intensified internal testing and notified Aspen Hills," Blue Bell said in its statement. "Aspen Hills then issued a voluntary recall of the products supplied to Blue Bell. Although our products in the marketplace have passed our test and hold program, which requires that finished product samples test negative for Listeria monocytogenes, Blue Bell is initiating this recall out of an abundance of caution."

Blue Bell cracked down its internal testing after a listeria outbreak shut down all of its plants. Now, it seems, the tightening of the reins has paid off, saving countless ice cream eaters from being infected with listeria.

The affected products were distributed in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and Virginia. If you purchased Blue Bell ice cream from one of these states, you can return your pints for a full refund.
