In an interesting turn of events, Oscar-nominated actor James Cromwell has been sentenced to serve jail time.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, back in December of 2015, the former American Horror Story star was involved in a protest sit-in at the site of a natural-gas-fired power plant that was being built in Wawayanda, New York.

As a result, Cromwell and the other protesters were arrested and charged with fines.

The iconic actor refused to pay those fines and so a Wawayanda town judge sentenced him to spend one week in jail.

Reportedly, the 77-year-old does not live in Wawayanda but does live in a town nearby.

Additionally, THR reports that Cromwell hopes people see the injustice of his jail sentence and will be inspired to join pickets and protests.

In 1996, Cromwell was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for his role in Babe.

While he didn't home the award, he did go on to win an Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie award at the 2013 Primetime Emmy's for his role on American Horror Story: Asylum.

Cromwell has a wealth of film and TV work in his past, and he's not done by any means.

Most recently, he appeared on TBS's The Detour, but he also has a handful of films on the way as well.

Probably his most prominent upcoming feature, however, is Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is being directed by J.A. Bayona and, in addition to Cromwell, stars Bryce Dallas Howard (Claire), Chris Pratt (Owen), Rafe Spall, BD Wong (Dr. Henry Wu), Toby Jones, and Justice Smith.

No word on how the jail sentence might affect his movie and TV shooting schedule, but it's not likely that one week will have too detrimental of an impact on Cromwell's various projects.
