On Wednesday, Snapchat introduced the newest feature called Memories coming to the popular app. “Memories is a new way to save Snaps and Stories on Snapchat,” the Snapchat blog post mentioned. “It’s a personal collection of your favorite moments that lives below the Camera screen. Just swipe up from the Camera to open Memories!”
Memories comes to the app today on Android and iOS, and will allow you to save keywords on your stories so that you can search them and then combine them with new photos in order to create a more compelling narrative to your Snaps. “In the past, you’ve been able to save your photos, videos, and stories from Snapchat to your phone’s camera roll,” The Verge reports. “Now you can save them to Snapchat’s servers as well, and revisit them later in the Memories section of the app.”

Snapchat also realized that the users will want to feel at ease viewing and sharing their snaps and videos. “We realized that Snapchatters want to feel comfortable showing their Memories to friends while they’re hanging out together, so we made it easy to move Snaps and Stories to My Eyes Only – and avoid awkward moments when a friend stumbles upon a Snap meant just for you.”
The new Memories feature will be rolled out by Snapchat selectively over the next month. Because the feature is brand new, the team from Snapchat wants to make sure that the new feature operates smoothly. Snapchat users will “receive a Chat from Team Snapchat when Memories is ready for you to use.”
Memories is one of the biggest changes to Snapchat in the company’s five-year history. People use the app to share messages that they might not share on other social media websites because the disappearing messages encourage the users to feel more comfortable posting candid snaps and videos of their lives. However, many use the app to record major milestone events such as graduations, weddings, vacations, and those are the kind of moments that Snapchat is now going to give the customers the ability to save those moments.
