You definitely don’t want to answer any of this clown’s knock-knock jokes. Pennywise the Dancing Clown is one you’d want to keep away from your child’s birthday part. The demonic jokester stands as the main monster in Stephen King’s IT. And, now, a new image of the creepy clown has been released shortly after the newest IT adaptation wrapped production.
Posted to Instagram, photographer Christopher Mellvold uploaded a photo he took while working on the set of IT. The black-and-white picture shows a decrepit set that fans believe depicts an underground sewer. A monitor sits in the center of the photo and shows a small photo of Bill Skarsgรฅrd as IT. While there’s nothing too interesting in the in-set photo, fans can see Pennywise sitting down with his jaw agape.

Of course, the photo looks very similar to the official photos fans were given of Pennywise. Warner Bros. released the first terrifying image in July and another picture followed in August. The former photo showed off the clown’s cake-on makeup while the latter gave fans a first-look at the character’s costume.
Janie Bryan, a costume designer for IT, said, “The costume definitely incorporates all these otherworldly past lives, if you will. He is definitely a clown from a different time.”
“There is almost a doll-like quality to the costume. The pants being short, the high waistline of the jacket, and the fit of the costume is a very important element. It gives the character a child-like quality.”
Pennywise’s ensemble pulled inspiration from all sorts of eras from Medieval to Victorian times. As for the outfit’s coloring, the designers wanted to make the famously bright outfit more sinister and mute so the clown could blend into the shadows.
When IT creeps into theaters, fans will get to see the outfit very closely – perhaps more so than they’d like. The iconic clown is a staple figure in the horror genre, so moviegoers might feel apprehensive to approach the red-nosed monster. And, according to Bill Skarsgรฅrd, they should be.
The actor has talked about Pennywise and his inhumane qualities, calling the clown “an extreme character.”
“It’s beyond even a sociopath, because he’s not even human,” the actor explained. “He’s not even a clown. I’m playing just one of the beings It creates.”
IT is about a group of childhood friends who reunite in their small home town in Maine to once again confront an evil entity that they thought they had destroyed 30 years earlier.
The cast features Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise, Javier Botet as The Leper, Jaeden Lieberher as Bill Denbrough, Jeremy Ray Taylor as Ben Hanscom, Sophia Lillis as Beverly Marsh, Finn Wolfhard as Richie Tozier, Jack Dylan Grazer as Eddie Kaspbrak, Chosen Jacobs as Mike Hanlon, Wyatt Oleff as Stanley Uris, Nicholas Hamilton as Henry Bowers, Owen Teague as Patrick Hockstetter, and Logan Thompson as Victor Criss.
IT will hit theaters September 8th, 2017.
