Apple is determined to keep iMessage and iOS a porn-free platform, even if it means making the word ‘Butt’ unsearchable in the new GIF feature. This butt censoring came after developers realized that the first GIF image was a sexualized My Little Pony character.
One of the many new features to the iMessage app is the ability to send GIFs. This came with the recent iOS 10 update on Tuesday. As per Apple’s stance on pornographic images, many words have been banned from the search. However, Deadspin noticed that ‘Butt’ was still searchable. So they searched it.

They also noticed that one of the very first images to pop up is a pornographic and sexualized image of a My Little Pony butt. But don’t try to find it now, as Apple has since removed the word ‘Butt’ from it’s search options.
Given Apple’s history with pornographic censoring in it’s iOS, this ‘Butt’ issue seems to be a major oversight. And despite the fact that they have since removed the word, it is still possible to find nudity on the platform with certain body part misspellings. If a third party app made similar mistakes, they would certainly be pulled from the system, and have been in the past.
Perhaps next time Apple should do a thorough and extensive search of words and images before releasing new features.
