US Olympic beach volleyball duo Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross have advanced to the semifinals of the tournament after defeating Australia’s Taliqua Clancy and Louise Bawden. At the stadium at Copacobana Beach on Monday morning, the U.S. team won the first two sets with the first one ending in a 21-14 score, and second set ending in a 21-16 victory.
After dropping only one set in their journey to Olympic gold in Rio, Walsh Jennings/Ross are now a perfect 5-0.Defending gold medalist Walsh Jennings and her teammate April Ross have been playing partners for three years.

In the semifinal round, the U.S. women will be facing off against the second-ranked Brazilians, Agatha and Barbara. The U.S. women will be playing the Brazilians in what will be the most highly-anticipated match of the Olympic tournament so far. Walsh Jennings and Ross entered into the Olympics ranked in the No. 3 spot in the world by FIVB. Agatha and Barbara were the No. 2 ranked team upon entering the tournament.
The other side of the bracket includes a top-seeded Brazilian duo Talita and Larissa, who take on Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst from Germany. Talita/Larissa just barely beat the 17-seeded Switzerland team (Heidrich/Zumkehr) to advance to the semifinals.
The women’s semifinals matches will take place on August 16.
