Fred Savage has signed a deal with 20th Century Fox Television to write, produce, and direct projects for the studio. The deal was made for an initial 2-year commitment, but has an option to extend for another 12 months, according to Variety.

Savage’s most recent work includes an acting gig co-starring alongside Rob Lowe on Fox’s “The Grinder,” which was produced by 20th Century Fox TV. Before being cast in “The Grinder,” Savage took a break from acting in order to hone in his directing and producing skills. However, the possibility of Savage doing some acting has not been excluded in the deal he recently struck with 20th Century Fox.

“The Grinder” was cancelled after one season, but the new deal between Savage and 20th Century Fox TV will keep him in the Fox family. President of the 20th Century creative services, Jonnie Davis said in a statement: “Fred is quite simply one of the most talented, creative forces out there, he can literally do it all. While that show sadly ended, we knew we wanted to stay in business with Fred for the long haul.”

Savage’s directing credits include: nearly 20 episodes of “2 Broke Girls,” seven episodes of “Modern Family,” “Garfunkel and Oates,” Hulu show “Casual,” “The Goldbergs,” “Playing House,” and much more. He was also a producer on shows such as “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” “Party Down,” and “Phil of the Future,” and more.

Known for his starring role on “The Wonder Years,” Savage was once one of the most well-known child actors in the world.

Also, more interesting news revolving around the 40-year-old actor, producer, and director is that he has been placed on the early list of contenders for the permanent gig on “Live” with Kelly Ripa. Savage has already guest-hosted with Ripa, and received a considerable amount of buzz regarding the opening after Michael Strahan’s departure from the show. The deal with Fox, however, may remove Savage’s name from the list of possible permanent replacements on “Live.”

We look forward to seeing the new projects that Fred Savage is attached to in the future.
