It’s not uncommon for opposing fan bases to collide on social media; it happens all the time. Take a look at Marvel and DC, for instance. Fans of the two properties are constantly going back and forth on the internet about who’s beloved franchise is better. The debating makes sense with two closely related companies like rival comic book developers. One fan-battle that doesn’t make sense, however, became a trending topic throughout Twitter this week.

The fan-bases of Game of Thrones and Teen Wolf began a clash on the social media outlet early on Tuesday, and the fued only grew as the day went on. Soon, #GameofThronesvsTeenWolf was a trending topic, and thousands of people were participating. To try and solve the dillemna, TV Show Time tweeted a poll for fans to cast their vote.

At the time of this article over 61 thousand fans had voted, with Game of Thrones taking around 60% of the votes. While this should have settled the argument, it only added fuel to the fire. The gloves were off as these passionate fans lashed out in defense of their favorite shows, and it was quite hilarious. Here are some of the best tweets from the debate.

That Comparison is a Slap in the Face

When this argument began, many Game of Thrones fans became insulted. Cries of supremacy rang throughout the web, and virtual fists were thrown. Since words sometimes aren’t enough, many turned to gifs to make their statements.

@Yannik_Silva used a moving photo of one of the greatest scenes in season one of Game of Thrones; Tyrion slapping the living mess out of Joffrey Baratheon. This tweet was to let all of those Teen Wolf supporters know what happens to them when they compare the two franchises. If a picture is worth a thousand words, what’s the value of a gif?

Right Back Atcha

Where there is one gif insult, there will surely be more to follow. The Game of Thrones fans were all over their gif game, but a couple of Teen Wolf peeps had some tricks up their sleeves.

Much like our first tweet, @Toni_Brancherx took offense to the shows being compared. A Teen Wolf fan through and through, Toni threatened those calling Game of Thrones a better show with a fighting gif of her own. The image saw Derek shoving Stiles up against a wall and shoving a menacing finger right in his face. You hear that, GoT fans? You’ve been warned.

Can’t We All Get Along?

While many fans have chosen to debate tirelessly over the subject, some just have love for both. After all, they’re two very different genres, why do they have to be compared at all?

@mm_natalia is clearly a fan of both shows, and definitely doesn’t think the debate should even exist. Calling both franchises her “babies”, Natalia also used some sound logic in driving the point home. If Teen Wolf is supernatural, and Game of Thrones is fantasy, why can’t both have a special place in our hearts? It’s a good point, unfortunately we live in a time when arguments online are kind of the social norm. Good try, though, we applaud your effort.

Drop The Mic

At the end of the day, it was the Game of Thrones fans who showed up in waves. Overwhelming the web, the group proved to be an unstoppable force. Seeing that opinions, no matter how strong in numbers, don’t do the trick. some fans turned to fact to settle things.

@HannahGrunstein dropped the mic when she informed the twitter-verse that one of these shows actually was better than the other. It’s hard to argue with the folks over at The Emmy’s, and they clearly prefer Game of Thrones. Over the course of 60 episodes the HBO hit series has accrued 110 Emmy nominations. In over 100 episodes, Teen Wolf hasn’t a single one.
