Get The Whipped Cream, Because A ‘Varsity Blues’ TV Series Is Coming To CMT

Guess what? Another reboot is on the way! Granted the television and film markets are oversaturated with reboots, this one does sound pretty entertaining. Variety reports that a Varsity Blues TV series is in the early stages of development at CMT with the film’s screenwriter, W. Peter Iliff, penning the script and Paramount TV producing.

Varsity Blues had a large cultural impact when it first came out, while also being a successful box office land, raking in $54 million. The film continued its cult status once it came out on VHS/DVD.

Naturally, this pickup by CMT is a smart move because it will be a successful nostalgia play that is sure to draw in all members of the CMT audience. The country-centric network has also snagged Nashville, after it was canceled at ABC, to capitalize on the country/southern markets full force.

But CMT is not the only player making smart moves when it comes to (somewhat) original content, as Paramount TV will be producing Varsity Blues, while they will also be producing the new Jack Ryan TV series.

Strap in, folks. It’s reboot time.
