Nelsan Ellis’ Family Reveals Circumstances Surrounding His Death
While everyone who worked on True Blood has said their goodbye in some form, Ellis’ closest co-star, Rutina Wesley, is now speaking up. Ellis and Wesley played cousins on the series, so they shared many scenes together, helping them grow close over time.
In memory of Ellis, Wesley wrote him a poem, which was released by EW on Tuesday.
He was a lover, he loved everything which is why people didn’t understand him. That’s the beauty of it. He thought everything was beautiful. Everything. So poetic, charasmatic, an energy none can compareโฆone who touched so many forever, deep, in places they cannot reachโฆ.a spirit so divine and fineโฆ.a chameleonโฆtransforming before you and youโฆ.transforming because of him. He could move your soul to wholeโฆ.in a momentโฆ.an arTeest!โฆlike nothing I’ve seen or will ever see again. A darkness wrapped up in light, tight, yearningโฆsearchingโฆmoving seas of hearts with a smile that dartsโฆright through youโฆ.how I loved youโฆfiercely vulnerable shining beaconโฆstand tall my friend, rest, peace has finally found youโฆ..
According to Ellis’ family, the actor died from heart failure due to alcohol withdrawal.
