James Gunn's 'Starsky and Hutch' Not a Reboot, Says Director

It was recently revealed that Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn is involved with a reboot of the classic '70s cop show Starsky and Hutch, except, as it turns out, it actually isn't a reboot at all.

In a recent Facebook post, Gunn revealed, "This would NOT be a reboot or a remake, but a continuation of the original series that would deconstruct the buddy cop show in a fun way."

"Like Guardians of the Galaxy did with the space opera, it would honor the genre while turning it inside-out. And it would definitely not be a spoof like the 2004 Starsky & Hutch movie - it would be gritty and driven by both characters and high stakes," he added.

Furthermore, Gunn also revealed that for now, he is only involved with the show in a producer capacity and it's the first time his production company, Troll Court Ent., has ever ventured into TV.

The original series starred David Soul and Paul Michael Glaser as the titular protagonists who patrol the streets and protect the citizens in Bay City.

Speaking about his love for the show, Gunn said, "When I was a kid, Starsky & Hutch was the first "adult" show I ever saw, and I fell in love. It instilled in me a lifelong love of gritty street shows, of killer 70's threads, and muscle cars."

He also spoke about his vision for the series.

"I started writing down some outlandish ideas for how we would handle Starsky and Hutch today - ideas that would be exciting and different and not at all what people expect," he added.
