5 Storylines the 'Sense8' Finale Special Needs to Resolve

When it was announced a few months ago that Sense8 had been canceled by Netflix, fans did not respond fondly to the news.

When announcing the show's cancellation, the VP of Netflix original content, Cindy Holland, said, "After 23 episodes, 16 cities and 13 countries, the story of the Sense8 cluster is coming to an end. It is everything we and the fans dreamed it would be: bold, emotional, stunning, kick ass, and outright unforgettable."

"Never has there been a more truly global show with an equally diverse and international cast and crew, which is only mirrored by the connected community of deeply passionate fans all around the world. We thank Lana, Lilly, Joe and Grant for their vision, and the entire cast and crew for their craftsmanship and commitment," Holland continued.

Fans responded by taking to social media to create support hashtags and blast the streaming giant for deciding to end a show that was beloved and seemed to have a fairly sizable audience. Producers of the show eventually broke their silence.

"We've seen the petitions. We've read the messages. We know you want to #RenewSense8, and we wish we could #BringBackSense8 for you. The reason we've taken so long to get back to you is because we've thought long and hard here at Netflix to try to make it work but unfortunately we can't. Thank you for watching and hope you'll stay close with your cluster around the world. #SensatesForever," they said in a statement.

Fast forward a few weeks, and much to the delight of fans, the producers of the show revealed that they had worked out a deal with Netflix to create one final two-hour special that would wrap up the story they set out to tell.

The thing about it is, there are so many active storylines that it's certain to be a challenge for the writers to look at how they wrap it all up in 120 minutes.

Below, you'll find a list of storylines that should absolutely be addressed and resolved in the series finale, as first shared by Netflix Life.

Non-Sensates Discover the Truth

While there have been and a few non-sensates that know that truth, overwhelmingly it's a kept secret among the people who are a part of it and their enemies.

Obviously one of the most supportive non-sensates has been Nomi's girlfriend/fiancée Amanita. She's gone to great lengths to help Nomi, and the remainder of the cluster, hide from people who would like to see them destroyed.

Eventually, Nomi and Amanita reveal to their friend Bug about Nomi's sensate cluster, but beyond the two of them, not many people are fully in the know.

There are several other non-sensates that deserve to know the truth, however. Such as Lito's art professor boyfriend Hernando and his actress friend/agent Dani. They have fully supported him throughout the series and it's time he opened up to them.

Additionally, it also feels like it's time that Wolfgang told his best friend/partner-in-crime (literally) Felix about himself and the cluster. Felix has been incredibly loyal to Wolfgang, even once taking a bullet because of him.

Of all the sensates, Sun Bak has probably endured the greatest injustices.

As the "daughter of a powerful Seoul businessman and a burgeoning star in the underground kickboxing world," Sun was set up by her own brother, Joong-Ki, for embezzlement that she isn't guilty of.

After suffering even more cruelty in prison — including an assassination attempt arranged by her brother — Sun finally got out with the help of the cluster and went on a mission to bring her brother to justice.

However, the second season ended without her serving up her special brand of kickboxing justice so it's imperative that the finale special bring this to a close and letting us see Joong-Ki get what he deserves.

Nomi and Amanita's Wedding

Nomi and Amanita are perhaps the best couple on the entire show. It's really hard not to root for them. Especially considering, as previously mentioned, Amanita is one of the only non-sensates around the cluster who knows what's going on.

We've been lucky enough to watch their relationship develop over the past couple of seasons and through everything, Amanita has been nothing but unconditionally supportive of Nomi and the group.

During season two, Amanita finally found the right time to propose to Nomi and ironically Nomi had been holding onto an engagement ring with the intent of proposing to Amanita.

The upcoming two-hour special needs to include scenes from the couples wedding so that we can see them have a happily ever after surrounded by their cluster, the people who love them.

Wolfgang Is Rescued/ the Group Meets in Paris

At the end of season two, fans were left with a cliffhanger that made the show's initial cancellation all that much more terrible.

In the final episode, Wolfgang had been betrayed by Lila (whom Kala turned out to be 100% right about in her mistrust). He was abducted by BPO and strapped to a table while being experimentally tortured.

The cluster then exacts a brilliant plan to extract him from his imprisonment and the episode ends with Will declaring war on Whispers and the BPO.

A great direction for the two-hour finale would be to see the cluster fully realize their potential and systematically dismantle the evil forces working against them. They deserve a big victory and fans deserve an ending with closure.

"To Be Continued..."

OK, so what if, though, instead of closure, they leave the audience still wanting more. Sure it's a big risk, but the series was brought back from total cancellation to get a two-hour finale.

If instead of ending on a closed point they left room to answer more questions and explore more adventures, fans might respond just as well.

Plus, there really are a lot of questions left, such as: Will Capheus win his election? What's going to happen with Lito's career? Could Rajan really be as noble as he appears, or is he hiding something? Will Capheus' mother and Nairobi, ever get some good medicine? Could Riley be meant to be a cluster mother?

These and many more questions linger out there and it seems like if the two-hour "finale" special is a massive success, then surely Netflix would find a way to fund more episodes.

We'll just have to wait and see when the special airs on Netflix sometime next year.
