MTV's newest reality series just premiered last night and it already has a scandal on its hands.
Siesta Key, a Florida-based reality series similar to Laguna Beach, was supposed to hold a premiere party with the cast in Sarasota, Florida. Due to alleged death threats directed at one of the show's stars, the party never happened.

Dr. Gary Kompothecras, father of star Alex and one of the show's creators, confirmed to The Tampa Bay Times that the party had been cancelled.
When asked about the alleged death threats, Kompothecras said there was more to the cancellation than that.
"I wouldn't say that's the only reason. There are other reasons."
Kompothecras declined to comment further, then hung up on the reporter.

People around the globe have been protesting the new series, and lashing out against Alex, following viral footage of one of his friends dragging a shark behind a boat.
A "Boycott Siesta Key MTV" Facebook page was started, and a protest was planned for the premiere party on Monday night. The premiere would have included a meet-and-greet with the cast, autographs, and a Q&A session.
Over 130 Facebook users planned to attend a protest outside the watch party.
