A promising NXT star's injury is going to keep him out longer than expected. Pro Wrestling Sheet is reporting that Tommaso Ciampa's torn ACL will keep him out of action until early 2018.

Tommaso Ciampa was involved in the biggest storyline of his young WWE career when injury struck during his career making match at NXT Takeover: Chicago. Ciampa and his partner, Johnny Gargano, took on the challenge of NXT Champs, Authors of Pain, in a ladder match.

DIY failed to regain the Tag Championships, but the bigger story came after the match when Gargano turned on his partner in a heartbreaking and beautiful display of professional wrestling.

Ciampa was last seen on the May 31 episode of NXT TV to explain his actions and vowed to be the most dangerous SOB in the company upon his return. As previously reported by PWInsider, Tommaso suffered a torn ACL and underwent surgery.

Both Ciampa and Gargano were rumored to be called up to the main roster later this year. It's a shame that an injury has caused a setback to those hopes for Ciampa as his new heel persona looks to have a ton of potential.
