Is AJ Styles Underappreciated in WWE?

In 2016, AJ Styles had one of the best rookie years in WWE history. Perhaps only rivaled by Kurt Angle's first campaign, Styles won the WWE Championship on top of feuding with WWE giants John Cena and Roman Reigns.

That said, AJ Styles 2017 has been a little different. With the WWE Championship being hogged by Randy Orton and Jinder Mahal, Styles has found himself outside of WWE's main event for most of this year. The question begs, has Styles slipped?

When asked if AJ Styles deserves more than his current US Championship run, former WCW boss, Eric Bischoff emphatically dismissed the notion:

"I don't subscribe to that. AJ won the title at Madison Square Garden for God's sake. The name of the title to me is irrelevant, to be honest with you. He's getting a ton of camera time. Look at the progress he's made in such a short period of time in WWE. How could anybody in their right freaking mind say that he is not getting what he deserves? I'm sure AJ would be the first one to disagree with anyone who says he's not getting what he deserves or that he has earned more. He's earned a great opportunity, he's earned a ton of freaking money and the notoriety of people around the world who had never heard of AJ Styles before. AJ Styles is just fine."

Bischoff could not be more correct. No wrestler, especially in WWE can spend his entire career in the main event. At some point, they need to cool off. For Styles, he has yet to reach that refrigeration period as WWE continues to put him in big situations. While his fans may be frustrated that Jinder Mahal is champion and not the Phenomenal One, he still owns an enviable positioned.

Like Bischoff pointed out on his podcast, Bischoff on Wrestling, Styles won the US Champion ship in a noteworthy manner on hallowed WWE ground. Not to mention his WrestleMania match with the boss's son and one of WE's biggest babyfaces Shane McMahon. Do not think for a second that Styles is underappreciated in WWE. In fact, someone like Austin Aries would likely do awful, unspeakable things to switch places with the US Champion.

So while it may feel like Styles isn't under WWE's brightest lights, just know that he will soon return. The main event can truly only involved 2 people at a time (in RAW's case 4), so Styles and his fans will just have to wait their turn.
