Sasha Banks Becomes Number One Contender

The Boss is back! Sasha Banks ran the gauntlet last night on Raw to become the new number one contender to Alexa Bliss' Women's Championship.

Nia Jax actually ran the entire gauntlet before Banks was amazingly able to pull her down to tap out in the Banks Statement. Before the loss, Jax easily disposed of Bayley, Mickie James, Emma and Dana Brooke.

After the match, Raw GM, Kurt Angle, came down to the ring to raise Sasha's hand in victory. The duo were then greeted by Alexa Bliss who hoped to send a message to her Great Balls of Fire challenger but instead got sent packing when Sasha knocked her out of the ring with a dropkick.

It's been a big week for Sasha as she was a presenter at the BET Awards one night before becoming the number one contender. Seeing Banks around the title scene feels much more right than having her appearing on 205 Live to prop up the failing purple roped program.

Fans of the women's revolution should take a moment and note the significance of this week. First, Glow hit Netflix over the weekend and has quickly become the streaming service's most talked about new show. Next, on WWE programming, for the first time ever, Raw, SmackDown and NXT will all be headlined by women on the same week.

What's really remarkable about the accomplishment is that WWE isn't trying to pay tribute to national women's month or really even to promote their upcoming Mae Young Classic. This just happened. The women aren't just being put in the main event, they are main eventers.

Tonight on SD Live, the women of the blue brand will get their Money In The Bank rematch to crown the first "official" Ms. MITB. Tomorrow night on NXT, the undefeated Asuka will defend her crown against Nikki Cross in a Last Woman Standing match.

It's a good time to be a female superstar in the WWE and an even better time to be a fan.
