Alberto El Patron Stripped of Championship by Paige's Family's Promotion

Alberto El Patron is being reprimanded by a wrestling promotion for the second time in a week. Only a few days ago, GFW indefinitely suspended their new Unified Champion. This time it's the United Kingdom promotion, WAW. The kicker? It's owned by El Patron's fiance and former WWE Superstar, Paige's, family.

In light of last week's scandal, WAW has stripped El Patron of their top title. It's a strong statement made by a promotion, but likely a stronger statement made by a family. Here's WAW's official press release:

"The WAW Undisputed World Heavyweight Championship has been declared vacant at last night's Academy Show in Costessey, following a unanimous decision by the WAW Championship Committee. The WAWCC's decision was announced by Zak Knight but no information was revealed regarding the crowning of a new champion. Since the announcement, several individuals have announced their desire to compete for the title. Both European Heavyweight Champion Robin Lekime and British Heavyweight Champion Aaron Sharp have already revealed their desire to add more gold to their repertoire, as well as former World Heavyweight Champion Brad Slayer and former European Heavyweight Champion King Kendo. With four of WAW's top competitors already eyeing up the most prestigious title will anyone else step forward in the hope of gaining public support?

A 32 man tournament has been announced to determine a new Undisputed World Heavyweight Champion over the course of the rest of 2017 with the final taking place at Epic Studios, Norwich in December. The entrants into this tournament will be deliberated by the WAWCC over the coming weeks before brackets are announced."

As we have been reporting, Alberto and fiancé Paige were involved in an airport altercation on Sunday (possibly with another female) that resulted in El Patron being detained by Orlando police. Although he was not arrested nor are any charges currently pending, the matter is still open and under investigation by local authorities, as well as internally by GFW.

While Paige denied the two were having any troubles despite previous rumors of their break-up, TMZ has since released troubling audio of the couple's interaction, which contradicts Paige's earlier tweet about the incident, in which she stated that the police were called simply because of an angry fan throwing a drink at Del Rio.

Paige's family is now starting to weigh in, voicing their concern over her relationship with Global Force Wrestling's World Champion. The couple have become known for their volatile nature and public outbursts. Del Rio made headlines last week for an expletive-ridden Instagram post where he challenged both Triple H and Xavier Woods to a fight, as well as trashing the WWE in his Impact Slammiversary PPV victory speech.
