Tim Allen's Politics Had 'Absolutely Nothing' to Do With 'Last Man Standing' Cancellation

Earlier this year, it was announced ABC was canceling Tim Allen's sitcom Last Man Standing. Some speculated that Allen's conservative views were the cause of the decision, by ABC is now saying that had "absolutely nothing" to do with it.

According to The Wrap, ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey spoke out about the cancellation, saying, "Politics had absolutely nothing to do with it — we have actors on our shows who have all sorts of different political views."

She continued, "Tim Allen is a valuable part of the Disney ABC family and has been for a very, very long time. Last Man Standing was a show that, several years running, kind of came up to the very end in terms of the renewal, which was the same case this year."

Lastly, Dungey revealed that the cancellation "was a disappointment to me because it was a high-quality show that was very well done," but added that the network simply could not find a place for it in their schedule.

After the show's cancellation was announced, many fans began accusing ABC of ending the show because of Allen being an outspoken conservative.

Allen himself responded to the news by tweeting, "Stunned and blindsided by the network I called home for the last six years."

In a previous statement, Dungy explained,"[Last Man Standing] was a challenging one for me because it was a steady performer in the ratings. Once we made the decision to not continue with comedies on Friday, that was where we landed."
