While Hawley has made his name at FX with Fargo and Legion, Robert Kirkman has long been involved with AMC. FX originally passed on The Walking Dead when Kirkman pitched it, and it ended up going to the rival network.

He also produces Fear the Walking Dead for the network, and created Outcast for Cinemax.

There's no word as to when the new series will begin production.
