Lawson, who previously starred on The Deep End, is said to be playing MI-6 operative Damian Rennett who comes into contact with Maggie Q's FBI agent character Hannah Wells, from a story shared by Deadline.

The report also details the nature of the relationship between the two characters, explaining that they meet while Rennett is in Amsterdam, posing as a Dutchman. "Their relationship begins with mutual wariness, morphs into competitiveness, and is complicated by an irresistible mutual attraction."

Lawson joins Paulo Costanzo, who was also recently announced as a new series regular addition to the Designated Survivor cast.

Costanzo will be playing Lyor Boone, "the new White House Political Director, a whiz kid brought on by Emily (Italia Ricci) to help a presidency struggling with its messaging and political strategy."

Last month, it was announced that season one regular Virginia Madsen would not be returning for the second season.

This was a decision she evidently had no part in, as she tweeted out, "Story decisions are made for a thousand reasons. It wasn't my call."

In addition to the casting changes, Designated Survivor will have a new showrunner as well.

Keith Eisner, a former executive producer on The Good Wife, has been announced as succeeding Jeff Melvoin as showrunner.

Melvoin will stay on as an executive producer of the show.
