Late last year, author of the Vampire Chronicles series of books Anne Rice regained the rights to her characters, allowing her to explore her stories in any medium she found necessary. As she moves forward to develop a TV series based on her characters, the author took to her Facebook page to ask for her fans' input on who should portray the iconic Lestat.

In her post, the author explained:

"Anne here: Guys, we talk a lot about who can play Lestat. And we all know that if we don't get that right, nothing else may matter. This is one series in which the star plays a super hero role. I am thinking an unknown will come to us for the part. But who are the up and coming young actors you all see and want to suggest? Include pix if you can. And any data. I love reading your responses. And yes, we've done this before with less focus perhaps on 'up and coming.' But let's do it again."

Many of Rice's fans were quick to chime in with their picks, ranging from the likes of Nicholas Hoult to Timothy Olyphant to Jared Leto. These actors aren't necessarily the "up and coming" type that Rice had asked for, but it was a start.

With all of the different adaptations being made of movies and comic books, fans chiming in with their picks of iconic characters regularly happens across social media, so Rice allowing her fans to cast their votes for the character shows how much she appreciates her following.

In Interview with the Vampire, Lestat was played by Tom Cruise as he was growing a massive following, which shows how important the actor is to the role and how much attention it would bring anyone lucky enough to embrace the character.

News of Rice moving forward with a TV series came as a surprise, as last May director Josh Boone shared a photo of the script for an Interview with the Vampire reboot, signaling that a film was in the works.

When the author initially shared the news with fans, she explained, "Over the years you all have told me how much you want to see a Game of Thrones style faithful rendering of this material, and how much you want for the series to remain in my control. Well, I have heard you. I have always heard you. What you want is what I want."
