Here's What Floyd Mayweather Tweeted After His Win
11/08/2017 03:22 pm EST
He started off by first thanking God for helping him get to such a victory against the 28-year-old MMA and boxer, McGregor. He wrote, "none of this" would have been possible with Him.
While some were moved by his message of sincerity and faith, others were not so impressed by his victory last night. Especially those who considered his dark history of violence outside the ring. Since 2002 Mayweather has been accused of violence against women with an alarming frequency.
While he has not been in the news for his violent side against women recently, in 2010 he hit his ex-girlfriend in front of two of their children, resulting n a 90-day prison sentence. And the fans remembered.
Mayweather, humbled by the reaction and reception of his fans also thanked everyone at home who was cheering him on.
With a career spanning more than 20 years, Mayweather generated approximately 19.5 million in PPV buys and $1.3 billion in revenue throughout his career, surpassing the likes of former top PPV attractions including Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis, Oscar De La Hoya and Manny Pacquiao.
His fans from all over the globe replied with their congratulations, some calling him the "champion of the world," while others shared memes from the night.
Since his opponent, McGregor carries his national pride for his home country on his sleeve, Mayweather wanted to give them special props by singling them out. This was especially needed after the amount of trash-talking the two had out in preparation for the big fight.
Some fans appreciated his remarks, but others were not so thrilled, especially after he made a comment about beating McGregor like a "Mexician," taking to social media to also share their analysis of the fight. Others also chimed in saying with Mayweather enticing McGregor into the ring, it would be good if the tables were turned with McGregor luring the undefeated boxing champ into the cage with him.
Tweeting last his record, "50-0," Mayweather latest garnered more than 200,000 retweets and a whopping 430,000 likes.
Clearly, fans were charmed by the record, but others... not so much. Many took to social media to reply that the competition was rigged, while others were just not impressed as to how the match went down between the two.
In addition to the post-fight tweets, Mayweather also had some tough hearted remarks to share about the fight and McGregor, whom he called a "tough competitor."
"I think we gave the fans what they wanted to see. I owed them for the Pacquio fight," Mayweather said after this match. "If I'm not mistaken, I guaranteed everyone this fight wouldn't go the distance."
He added, "He was a lot better than I thought he was."
Mayweather announced last night that this would be his last fight, bringing his career to an undefeated 50-0. McGregor is expected to return to UFC, but has said he is open to boxing again.
