'A Series of Unfortunate Events': Matty Cardarople Details How He Got His Henchman Role

A second season of A Series of Unfortunate Events is headed to Netflix early next year, but fans of the show are still enjoying the fun romp contained in the first eight episodes of the show.

One of the highlights in the comedic adaptation of Lemony Snicket's children's novels is the wickedly goofy henchmen in Count Olaf's (Neil Patrick Harris) theatre troupe.

PopCulture.com caught up with Matty Cardarople, the actor behind one of crew's most unique members. As Orlando, The Henchman of Indeterminate Gender, Cardarople is responsible for one of the key supporting roles, such as in the fourth episode when the character gets in disguise as a nurse to fool authorities.

While he does marvelous job in the role, he first had his eyes on another role in the troupe: the Hook-Handed Man. He also prepped for the audition by looking back at the series' 2004 film adaptation.

"Before I went in for the audition, I rewatched [Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events] with Jim Carey to get a feel of what the style was like," Cardarople said. "I originally auditioned for Hook-Handed Man, so I wore a brown suit and dressed like him. Of course, I didn't have hooks or anything."

"Then I got another callback for a different role, Henchperson of Indeterminate Gender, which is the role I got. I didn't hear anything for two or three weeks and then my manager called saying I got the part."

While the Hook-Handed Man went to Usman Ally, it worked for the best, as Cardarople puts in a solid performance in his role.

All eight episodes of ASoUE season one are streaming on Netflix.
