In 2016, NFL superstar Colin Kaepernick made national headlines when he chose to kneel during the National Anthem. He later confirmed that his choice to kneel was in protest to the rising racial tensions in the black community.
Now, it looks like the 49ers quarterback won’t be making that same statement this season.

Apparently, Kaepernick feels as though there has been many “positive changes” in the black community and that’s why he is choosing to end his personal protest.
ESPN reports, “Kaepernick no longer wants his method of protest to detract from the positive change he believes has been created, sources told ESPN. He also said the amount of national discussion on social inequality โ as well as support from other athletes nationwide, including NFL and NBA players โ affirmed the message he was trying to deliver.”
Although Kaepernick feels like he no longer needs to protest, his decision to stand this football season has definitely made headlines. And with those headlines comes the backlash. Twitter users had a lot to say about Colin’s latest decision.
Social media users have been split evenly with their reactions. Many are for Kaepernick ending his protest, while others are totally against it. Check out Twitter’s best reactions here:
